If you haven’t read my blog post on how to add the jCarousel of product to your Scentsy website, you should check that one out first. This post is about how to add a information block at the top of your Scentsy website with your picture and information. This post assumes that you are using the jCarousel code as well.

To add the information block at the top of your website, look for the
Scentsy Multipacks
in the original code. Your block of information will need to go directly above that line.

The text-block below is the code for adding your picture to the left with your email address and phone below the picture, and then a block of text to the right. The image I have is 150 pixels wide. If you want a larger image, you will need to adjust the percent of the left column (currently 20%) and the right column (currently 80%) appropriately. The width of the entire box is 845 pixels.

TITLE YOUR HEADER BLOCK HERE

ENTER YOUR EMAIL HERE
phone: ENTER YOUR PHONE HERE
ENTER ADDITIONAL CONTACT INFO HERE

ENTER YOUR INFORMATION PARAGRAPHS HERE

Click here to shop as part of a local event.

You can add more contact information beneath your phone by adding a
tag (which means line break)and then follow it the information you want on that line.

The text-block below is for information, without the left and right columns. You can put this block at the very end of your jCarousel code to add information below your Scentsy products.

TITLE YOUR BLOCK HERE

ENTER YOUR INFORMATION PARAGRAPHS HERE

If you do use an image, you will need to upload your image to an external website, like Flickr or ImageShack, and then paste in the URL of the image, like this – http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3474/3348684986_0800d20a22_m.jpg

This textbox below is the header block with the full jCarousel so you don’t have to insert the new code into it.

<!–This is a comment tag. The text inside this tag will not be seen on your website. The code above this comment will make it so your website will fill the left and right areas.

After my last post, Download & Burn YouTube Videos to DVD, I had the question come up about how to download Youtube videos onto an MP3 Player. If you follow the tutorial from the last post, the video that you download from Youtube is in MP4 format. You can add that video to your iPod through iTunes under the Movies’ menu. Or if you have a non-Apple, MP3 + Video player, you can add the video virtually the same way you would add music.

Now, if you just want the MP3 audio from a YouTube video so you can burn it to CD, play it on your computer, or add it to your MP3 player, then there is a nice little software program that will do the trick. Any Video Converter Freeware is the program that I use, because it’s free and you can convert video and audio to just about any other format. I’m sure there are dozens of other programs that will work just fine, this just happens to be the one I use. You can also use this program to download YouTube videos. This works really nice if there are a lot of videos you would like to download, because you can add them all at once. It will also format them for your iPhone/iTouch, which is nice, because sometimes videos I download through the browser won’t add to iTunes.

Here is the software you will need:
Firefox – My favorite web browser
DVD Flick – Open Source DVD Authoring Software. Use iDVD if you are on a Mac. (Tutorial for that later.)

In order to get a video from YouTube onto DVD you need to
1. Download the video through Firefox
2. Create the DVD with a DVD Authoring software
3. Burn the Authored DVD to the Disc

Download the Video

Open your Firefox web browser.

Right-click the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Select New Bookmark.

In the Name textbox, input a name for your bookmarklet, such as YouTube HD.

In the Location textbox, input the following code for the HD Bookmarklet:

HD Bookmarklet
javascript:window.location.href%20=%20'http://youtube.com/get_video?video_id='%20+%20swfArgs['video_id']%20+%20"&fmt=22"%20+%20"&l="%20+%20swfArgs['l']%20+%20"&sk="%20+%20swfArgs['sk']%20+%20'&t='%20+%20swfArgs['t'];

Follow the steps to Download the video again, but this time in the Name textbox, input “YouTube HQ” and copy the code below into the location textbox:

High Quality Bookmarklet
javascript:window.location.href%20=%20'http://youtube.com/get_video?video_id='%20+%20swfArgs['video_id']%20+%20"&fmt=18"%20+%20"&l="%20+%20swfArgs['l']%20+%20"&sk="%20+%20swfArgs['sk']%20+%20'&t='%20+%20swfArgs['t'];

You can now drag these Bookmarklets to your Bookmark toolbar. When you visit a video on Youtube that you want to download, click on either the HD or HQ Bookmark you just created, and it will begin to download. You see if a video is available in HD by looking at the bottom right of the video player and see if it has a HD or HQ button.

Create the DVD

Install and then open DVD Flick.

Add Video Files by clicking “Add Title.” The bar on the left will begin to fill up, letting you know how much space you have used.

Once you have added all your videos, click on “Project Settings” and give your DVD a name

Click on Menu Settings, and if you so desire, enable menu and pick a menu design

Burn to DVD

You can read about other DVD authoring features for DVD Flick by clicking the “Guide” button within DVD Flick.

You can have DVD Flick burn your project to DVD once it is encoded. To select this option, click on “Project Settings” -> “Burning” and check the “Burn Project to Disc” option. Click Accept.

If you want to use a different DVD burning software, like Nero or Roxio, don’t check the box.

Once you have your DVD setup how you’d like it to be, click on “Create DVD.” How long the encoding takes depends on the speed of your CPU and the hard drive that the project’s destination folder is on.

Once the encoding is complete, your project will start burning to your DVD or you can then burn the VIDEO_TS folder using your preferred DVD burning software.

Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or suggestions.

This tutorial is specifically on how I used jCarousel on my Scentsy website to load all of the products on one page for easy browsing.

Once you’ve added the jCarousel to your website, check out my follow up block on how to add a header block with your picture, contact details and additional information: http://heather101.com/scentsy/scentsy-website-header-block

jCarousel is an Open Source, jQuery plugin for controlling a list of items in horizontal or vertical order. I have used jCarousel to call a group of images with their accompanying title and price, and then linked each one to the corresponding product. Once I update it my JavaScript file, it will update it on every consultant’s website. So when I add the new Warmer of the Month, your site will update too.

I am happy to share this code with Scentsy Consultants, but ask that they do not remove the comment text that let’s anyone viewing the source code know where to go to get a copy of it. This text will not be visible on your website, but only to those looking to see how it was put together. I am able to see what websites are using the scripts.

I use Safari as my web browser when editing my Scentsy.com website. The reason for this is the TinyMCE editor that is used by Scentsy.com ends up deleting some of my code when I go back into to edit it. If I use Safari, all the code stays. If you don’t use Safari and down want to download it, make sure that you select the “Source” button in the top left before pasting in the code. You will need to save any changes you make to the code in a separate text file, in case you want to edit it later.

So for those who are saying, “Yeah, yeah, I don’t care how you did it. Where’s the code?” Simply click in the textbox below and then copy (CTRL+C) the code. Then go to your Scentsy Consultant Login -> Profile -> Your Website Information -> Personalize.

<!–This is a comment tag. The text inside this tag will not be seen on your website. The code above this comment will make it so your website will fill the left and right areas. This will remove your left sidebar. Remove the checkbox next to your name, email, and other identifiers in the Scentsy Website Display Options. You will need to add that information yourself below. –>

<!–If you would like any information to be added BEFORE the carousel’s of product, place that information here.–>

<!–You must leave this comment in order to use this code. If you would like to add this free code to your website, please visit http://www.heather101.com/scentsy/scentsy-website for a free copy.–>

Scentsy Multipacks

Scentsy Deluxe Warmers

Scentsy Plug-in Warmers

<!–Please visit http://www.heather101.com/scentsy/scentsy-website for a free copy of this code.–>

Scentsy Bars, Scentsy Room Spray, Scentsy Car Candles, Scentsy Extras

<!–If you would like any information to be added AFTER the Carousel’s of product, place that information here.–>

Now for those of you who don’t want to blindly paste in someone’s code into their website, here is a breakdown of what each section of the code is doing.

The first line of code breaks the Scentsy formatting of the left sidebar with your information. Notice in the image above I have unchecked everything except for “Show Me On Locator.” This means that you will need to add that information yourself.

Throughout the code you will see comment tags that look like this:
<!– Some boring text –>
Those comment tags are only seen by people viewing the source and are there as guides for you on where to put additional information.

<div style=”margin:-230px 0px 0 0px; background: url(‘http://heather101.com/jcarousel/lib/images2/index_r8_c6.jpg’); padding-top: 5px;”>
The above code defines the color of the background, which is the yellow that is used in the footer of all Scentsy consultant websites. The margin:-230px shifts this area up 230px, so it will cover the area that was normally allotted to the sidebar information. If you want to add something before your carousel of products, do it after this line. There is a comment area showing you were to do that. You can remove that comment completely and replace it with what you’d like it to be, which could be your name, email, phone, etc. You could use the TinyMCE editor Scentsy provides to style the text how you’d like it to be, click on Source, and then copy and paste the code over the comment. In a future lesson I’ll show how I made that area into a “Join My Team” box.

The next five lines, similar to the one above, are what call the files from my site to make the jCarousel work, followed by the comment to direct others back to this tutorial.

Scentsy Multipacks
/

These double lines are the header and the jCarousel for each section of product. There are four sets total.

<!–If you would like any information to be added AFTER the Carousel’s of product, place that information here.–>
This is a comment to show you were you can put information to be displayed after your four jCarousels. Just erase the comment completely and paste your text in the same spot.

</tr&
This last line is what completes the table from above and allows the footer from Scentsy to function properly.

Please feel free to add any comments, questions, or suggestions below.

We are Mormon originally published Dec. 05, 2008 on MormonTimes.com.

In October 1979 General Conference, Elder Bruce R. McConkie declared, “We are called Mormons.” He went on to list other things of which we are falsely accused which “sow the seeds of prejudice among those who otherwise might learn who we are and what we believe.” Elder McConkie then closed his thought with a request that still stands today, “We feel it is not too much to ask, in this age of enlightenment and open dialogue, to let us be the ones who tell who we are, what we believe, and why our cause is going forward in such a marvelous way.”

Many of us are familiar with the series of talks Elder Ballard gave to graduating students about Using New Media to Support the Work of the Church. Both Elder Ballard and Church Public Affairs have encouraged Latter-day Saints to join the online conversation and use language that friends of other faiths will understand.

Even still I receive emails expressing concern about using the word Mormon, especially using the term Mormon Church. As members of the church, we all know who we are, what we believe, and that this is Jesus Christ’s Church. Many of us understand the style guide set forth by the church to the media. But not everyone else does.

More than 70 years ago, when President Gordon B. Hinckley was a missionary in England he asked an associate, “How can we get people, including our own members, to speak of the Church by its proper name?” To which the associate replied, “You can’t. The word Mormon is too deeply ingrained and too easy to say. . . . I’ve quit trying. While I’m thankful for the privilege of being a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the Church which bears His name, I am not ashamed of the nickname Mormon.”

Even though I’m an active, daily participant in online conversation about the church, in the past I too have struggled with embracing the word Mormon. I want to share the insights I have gathered which have helped me respectfully say, “I am a Mormon.”

In the Book of Mormon, Ammon taught King Lamoni using terms King Lamoni would understand. Ammon used the term “Great Spirit” so he could then connect that term with the concept of God. [Alma 18:26,28]. This has helped me realize that I too should use the term Mormon as it’s the most common word non-Mormons use to find out information about the Church and its members. Once someone finds my site or video, I can then teach them that the correct name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I am well aware that those who would “sow the seeds of prejudice” are more than willing to use terms such as Mormon and Mormon Church. If those who want to learn about our beliefs can find truthful sites about our faith on the Internet, then we don’t have to spend as much time clearing up misconceptions and lies spread by others.

The talk Mormon Should Mean “More Good” given by President Hinckley in the October 1990 General Conference is really what got me over that last hurdle, that last remaining stigma. “If there is any name that is totally honorable in its derivation, it is the name Mormon. . . .After all, it is the name of a man who was a great prophet who struggled to save his nation, and also the name of a book which is a mighty testament of eternal truth, a veritable witness of the divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Today the word “Mormon” rolls off my fingers as if it were my own name, as it has become a name I use each day. In Gospel Doctrine class it has even rolled off my tongue. I just have to smile at the strange looks and eye brows raised in question that asks, “Doesn’t she know any better?” To which I then remind myself, “Yes, I really do.”

If you sell Scentsy or other kind of smelly stuff, it’s always nice to have some coffee beans around for your clients to be able to clear their sinuses. The reason is that your scent glands become saturated with these similar scents and you become desensitized. The Scentsy wax activates certain chemical receptors. After a while your scent receptors become so saturated, that they cannot tell the subtle differences between scents. Your sense of smell will tire out and you stop smelling things after a certain amount of time. Coffee beans will fix that. The coffee beans essentially clear up your scent organs by stimulating other chemical receptors. The result is that you feel freshened up and can differentiate between scents.

A fun idea for this is to create flower pens with a coffee bean center. Here are the supplies you will need

Bic Pens (any pen with a cap, not a click pen)

Silk Flowers

Netting

Green Floral Tape

Flower Wire

Pull out the center part of the flower to make room for the coffee beans. Put a few of the coffee beans in a square of netting and then wrap wire around the netting to hold it in place. Keep one end of the wire about 5″ long.

Take the satchel of coffee beans and place in the center of the flower. Feed the remaining wire end that was wrapped around the netting down through the center hole in the flower and wrap it around the stem. Push the stem up into the netting of coffee beans. Use hot glue under the coffee bean satchel and between the flower petal and stem base to make everything extra secure.

Hold the stem flush with the pen. Starting at the top of the pen, wrap the pen with floral tape so that the flower is secure. Pull the floral tape tight as you wrap.

Continue wrapping the pen until covered.

Arrange the flowers in the vase. Keep the pens in a gallon size ziplock back until using at the party. You can also put coffee beans, rice, or any other kind of bean in the vase to hold the pens. Now your clients can smell Scentsy, mark their favorite scents, and take a whiff of the coffee beans when they need to clear their sinuses. Plus you look super clever for putting it all together!

For our ninth wedding anniversary, John got me a flying lesson! It was completely unexpected. Everyone keeps asking, “Wow! Is that something you always wanted to do?” No, it’s not something I’ve ever asked for, but it has been one of those things that I’ve thought, “Yeah that would be great to do someday.” I always thought it was something that was out of reach in one way or another.

I knew John had something big planned, but I had no idea what. He found a babysitter, and told me the time on Saturday, but that’s the only information I had. A few days before he told me he needed to know our combined weight. I started thinking hot air balloon or bungee jumping. When I asked him what I should wear and he said, “Just something comfortable. You won’t need a jacket.” I didn’t have a clue. I still didn’t know what it was until we were pulling into a parking lot with a big sign that said “Flight School” for Leading Edge Aviation.

I was really nervous and really excited at the same time. In no time I was in the pilot seat of a four seat Cessna, a single-engine, high wing airplane. I was so surprised by how much of the flying I did myself. Elliot, the flight instructor, told me to pull back on the yolk, and the next thing I knew, we were in the air. I was surprised by how much the slightest turn, push, or pull would move the whole plane. I wonder if it was just me feeling the adjustments, because John said it felt smooth to him. I also thought a small plane like that would be bounced around a lot more, but it was a very smooth ride.

We flew around the valley for about 30 minutes and then brought it back in. Elliot held the yolk to keep the wings steady, but I brought the plane in and landed it myself. He told me I did great and was a complete natural. My comment back to him was that I’m sure he is suppose to say that to everyone.

All in all, it was one of the best experiences of my life. It’s really tempting now to want to get my pilots license, but just a bit impractical. But taking a flying lesson here or there would be a lot of fun. I highly recommended it!
